Driving Test Report

Comprehensive Driving Evaluation

(Recommended)

A comprehensive driving evaluation is the gold standard for determining fitness to drive as it includes an occupational therapy clinical evaluation and a behind the wheel assessment. The clinical evaluation is 1.5 hours assessing vision, cognition, physical abilities, and driving history. The behind the wheel evaluation is a 1 hour driving assessment in our driving rehabilitation vehicle.

The outcome of this assessment will have one of the following outcomes that will be shared with your doctor for final approval:

1) Client presents with fitness to drive.

2) Client presents with potential for improvement and is recommended for training.

3) Client presents with deficits and is recommended to hold on driving, with a possible return for reassessment after certain skills improve or other conditions are met.

4) Client presents with deficits that impact safety and is recommended for driving retirement.

Clinical Readiness Evaluation

A 1.5 hour clinical readiness evaluation includes a detailed assessment of one's cognition, vision, physical performance, street sign knowledge, and past/current medical history. Does not include a behind the wheel assessment.

Behind the Wheel Evaluation

The Behind the Wheel evaluation only is available to those whom have completed the required clinical readiness evaluation separately. This evaluation is 1.5 hours. The driver's skills of handling a car will be evaluated without training to assess if the client is able to progress to driving independence through training or evaluation only.

Behind the Wheel Training

Behind the wheel training is your hands on experience with an occupational therapist/driving rehab specialist who gets you ready for the open road. Includes: adaptive equipment trials and training, skill progression for safety and independence, preparation for state licensing exam with new adaptive equipment. The length of training sessions, the time, and the frequency will vary based on the client's needs and schedules.
